I found that no matter what I tried, I could not get Google Talk to work through Empathy (on my Google Apps account)
I fixed it by adding it as a Jabber account, and all is well. Just set the server to talk.google.com and the port to 5222, turn off SSL and you’re away.
Annoying, but at least it works.
